The Point of Convergence
I read a number of great books last year. Four of my favourites are Crossing the Chasm, Good to Great, The E-Myth Revisited, and Tribal Leadership.
Each one of these books presents a different scale, or ranking system, that helps leaders evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their organization. Each one of these books also shares traits with the other three books. With that in mind, I came up with this little diagram.
Each “arm” of the diagram represents a scale from one of the books:
- Whole Product Level is from Crossing the Chasm. Low = Core Product, High = Whole Product.
- Effort in Turning Flywheel is from Good to Great. Low = No Effort, High = Considerable Effort.
- Working on Biz vs. Working for Biz is from E-Myth Revisited. Low = You’re working on the business, High = you’re working for the business.
- Organization Culture is from Tribal Leadership. Low = “Level 1: Life Sucks”, High = “Level 5: Life is Great”.
The goal is to bring your position on each scale to the middle (the Point of Convergence), which represents the ideal organization.
