February 20, 2012 - There are three flavours of WordPress – .org (“dot org”), .com (“dot com”) and VIP. The question about what makes each one different comes up often at our WordPress meetups. Many other bloggers have detailed the differences between the three, but I figured I might as well add my post to the pile anyway.

January 27, 2012 - The WordPress Foundation hereby declares 2012 to be Year of the Meetup, and it’s a big deal. They’re talking about providing financial backing and logistical support for WordPress meetups around the world.

January 13, 2012 - I’ll be back at CSI Annex this weekend to help out with the Intro to WordPress workshop from Ladies Learning Code. The all-day workshop is being led by the fabulous Wes Bos. He did a wonderful job leading the last WordPress workshop from LLC, and I look forward to seeing what improvements he’s made for round two.

January 9, 2012 - If you’re a member of the Toronto WordPress Group, you may have recently gotten an alert from Meetup.com about a new group called Toronto WordPress Developers. Toronto WordPress Developers is being led by Al Davis. I’m helping out, along with Craig Taylor.

December 13, 2011 - The Toronto WordPress Meetup Group is wrapping up 2011 with a social gathering at Pauper’s Pub, just down the street from Bloor & Bathurst. We weren’t sure what the turnout would be, so we didn’t book the upstairs room – instead, we’re gathering at the back of the main floor.
» Ladies Learning Code + WordPress
November 29, 2011 - I took part in an all-day WordPress workshop last weekend. It was hosted by Ladies Learning Code, and led by local web developer Wes Bos. The eight-hour session introduced new users to the WordPress platform, with Wes covering everything from installation and configuration to theme customization and custom post types.

November 29, 2011 - According to founder Matt Mullenweg in his 2011 State of the Word Address, there are thousands of self-employed developers making a living on the WordPress platform. His voluntary survey recorded 6,800 developers who have built 170,000 sites between them, making a median hourly rate of $50. – ReadWriteWeb

» The Hover Problem: Dropdown Lists on the iPad, iPhone
November 28, 2011 - CSS dropdown navigation menus are fabulous. They’re an elegant way of enabling multi-level navigation, without making the user click through a series of pages. The problem with the :hover selector is that touchscreen devices (namely the iPhone, iPod and iPad) don’t recognize the “hover” state.
