SOPA & PIPA will affect everyone, everywhere.

January 18, 2012 - SOPA & PIPA are two pieces of American legislation that would have a negative impact on the freedom that the Internet provides. If you think you’re unaffected because you’re not a US citizen, think again. This isn’t an American issue – it’s a global issue.

Ladies Learning Code: Intro to WordPress #2

January 13, 2012 - I’ll be back at CSI Annex this weekend to help out with the Intro to WordPress workshop from Ladies Learning Code. The all-day workshop is being led by the fabulous Wes Bos. He did a wonderful job leading the last WordPress workshop from LLC, and I look forward to seeing what improvements he’s made for round two. :)

A fresh start to WPToronto.com

January 13, 2012 - The new version of WPToronto.com is up and running! Through 2012, we want to build a comprehensive resource for all things WordPress in Toronto. This is our first step. :)

WordPress.org takes a stand against PIPA/SOPA

January 10, 2012 - WordPress.org has joined the fight against PIPA and SOPA, two dangerous pieces of American legislation that could have serious ramifications for the Internet as a whole.

Toronto WordPress Developers

January 9, 2012 - If you’re a member of the Toronto WordPress Group, you may have recently gotten an alert from Meetup.com about a new group called Toronto WordPress Developers. Toronto WordPress Developers is being led by Al Davis. I’m helping out, along with Craig Taylor.

Leaders Inspiring Action (TED Video)

January 3, 2012 - One of my favourite videos from the TED series is Simon Sinek’s presentation on how great leaders inspire action. In a nutshell, great leaders start with why they’re doing something before moving on to how they’re doing it, and they end with what they’re doing.

Looking Back at 2011, Forward to 2012

December 31, 2011 - Here we are, at the end of another year. It’s been a crazy one. Lots of ups, lots of downs. On a personal level, 2011 has been a year of discovery and growth. I visited Los Angeles for the first time, started a gym routine, and moved to a nicer part of the city. In the fall, I helped organize WordCamp Toronto, mentored at a Ladies Learning Code workshop, and retired from freelance web development.

Merry (Green) Christmas!

December 25, 2011 - Looks like Heat Miser and Snow Miser came to an agreement. It’s freezing cold outside, but there ain’t much snow…! Merry Christmas, everyone!

RedDead.net is back, managed by Kryten

December 24, 2011 - The Red Dead Redemption forums have been restored, albeit in a slightly crippled state. We ran into some major problems during the migration from MyBB to SimpleMachines, but it’s better than nothing. As mentioned in a previous blog post, I’ve resigned from my position as RedDead.net’s webmaster. Kryten, the most active administrator on RDN, has taken over the site. I’ll still be kicking around in a pseudo-support capacity.

Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas

Daily Show's War on Christmas

December 22, 2011 - Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas? Why one or the other? Why not both? I never understood why this non-issue became such a point of controversy. Both phrases – along with Seasons Greetings, et al. – are completely acceptable. You can use all of them without diminishing the value of any other phrase.
