I’m a huge, huge fan of Barenaked Ladies.
BNL was the first band that I ever truly liked. From Gordon to Born on a Pirate Ship, Maybe You Should Drive, Stunt, Maroon, Everything to Everyone… I grew up listening to these guys.
When Steven Page left the band in February 2009, I was crushed. Steven’s vocals defined the early sound of BNL. I was worried that the band wouldn’t recover from his departure.
And yet here we are, a month short of the 1 year anniversary of Steve’s farewell to the band, and all is well.
With the upcoming release of their new album “All in Good Time” and the Canadian tour in April to support it (which I am attending, of course), Ed, Tyler, Jim and Kevin have shown that they’re not going anywhere.
It’s fitting, really. The music of the former BNL was there for me throughout elementary school, high school and college. The new BNL — the post-Page, four-man arrangement — is here for me as I head into the “real world” of adulthood.
Even more fitting: “All in Good Time” comes out in the US on my birthday – March 30th.
